In this blog post, we will be discussing the Kitab jawahirul kalamiyah of Abu Hanifah. This book, written about 700 years ago, is a compilation of the hadith and fiqh teachings from Muhammad Al-Bukhari and Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj. There are a few salient points to note here: 1) The kitab has been translated into English by Aisha Abdar Rahman. This translation is important because these animals have not been translated into English for over five hundred years so their meanings might have changed since then (and as such they provide evidence as to how Muslims viewed these creatures in those times). 2) The book is a compilation of two other books, one being the Sahih of al-Bukhari and the other being that of Muslim. 3) The Kitab contains a total of sixteen chapters which are as follows: Chapter 1 - Regarding what has been related from the Messenger s.a.w.s about a camel being a three-day journey apart from its herd or from people. Chapter 2 - Regarding what has been related from the Prophet s.a.w.s regarding how to use the tooth stick and washing ones mouth for prayer, as well as wudu’(ablution). Chapter 3 - Regarding what has been related from the Prophet s.a.w. s regarding sneezing, yawning, sleeping and talking. Chapter 4 - Regarding what has been related from the Prophet s.a.w.s regarding supplication of the sick person until he recovers or dies. Chapter 5 - Regarding what has been related from the Prophet s.a.w.s regarding supplication for rain during times of drought, as well as the invocation against drought, famine and extreme famine Chapter 6 - Regarding what has been related from the Prophet s.a.w.s regarding rain clouds and rain water being pure even if it falls into a pool or a well etc. Chapter 7 - Regarding what has been related from the Prophet s.a.w.s regarding the camel in the qibla, and how to use it when its owner dies or is too weak; and we seek refuge in Allah from the curse of a camel that is in the zenith Chapter 8 - Regarding what has been related from the Prophet s.a.w.s regarding carrying water for female camels, and about feeding zakat al-mahr on camels Chapter 1: Concerning What Has Been Related From The Messenger of Allah s.a.w. s About A Camel Being Three Days [Apart] [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] From its herd or from people. The Messenger of Allah s.a.w.s said: “The camel is a three days journey away from his herd, and three days away from the people” . Chapter 2: Concerning What Has Been Related From The Messenger of Allah s.a.w.s Regarding How To Use The Tooth Stick And Washing Ones Mouth For Prayers, As Well As Wudu’(Ablution) Chapter 3: Concerning What Has Been Related From The Messenger of Allah s.a.w. cfa1e77820
